I was told it would happen, but I seriously doubted it.
You may have too. I mean, it’s just too weird.
But I can assure you, they do it!
In late 2013, my first gemstone called to me. Right from a store window.
I was in Asheville, NC, attending the Mindful Assists workshop at Asheville Yoga Center. During some free time, I went to the Grove Arcade to check out Enter the Earth, a crystal and gemstone shop. Although I had previously studied the Geological properties of rocks and minerals in college, I was just beginning to study the metaphysical properties of stones. I was interested to see what Asheville had to offer.
As I approached the shop, I couldn’t help but stop and stare at the Amethyst specimens in the window. An exquisite piece caught my eye. It was more beautiful than anything I had ever seen. I was used to beads, small pieces, maybe a crystal cluster, but not this!
When I came to, I talked myself into walking away. I wasn’t planning on buying anything THAT big, so I ignored the pull. I walked in the shop and looked around but ultimately left empty handed. Nothing spoke to me.
I wandered around the arcade some more, looking in the shops, but I just couldn’t forget the Amethyst crystal. With some pep in my step, I went back to the window. I looked at it for a few seconds and my intuition spoke to me.
I marched in there and I bought it.
And it has adorned my work space and artisan craft show table ever since. Every time people come up to my table, they always comment how beautiful it is. Some even ask if it is for sale! (NOPE!)
(See, I told you the crystal talks!)
So why is this stone so important to have in your tool kit?
Amethyst is one of the most important stones for Third Eye Chakra, or the energy center located in between the brow. This purple quartz promotes spiritual awareness, intuition, and psychic abilities. It calms the mind and creates emotional stability and inner strength. It initiates wisdom and greater understanding of our thoughts and internal communications within ourselves. By doing this, we are open to new ideas, dreams, and visions. It also opens up your spiritual center when meditating.
Known as the Sobriety Stone, Amethyst comes from the Greek word ametusthos, meaning “without drunkenness.” Ancient Greeks and Romans would use the stone on their wine goblets and Catholic Bishops would wear it to prevent spiritual drunkenness. It can help you prevent imbibing too much, as well as, help you keep a clear, sober mind.
Although many people are very drawn to this stone, Amethyst is at its most powerful when worn or in very close proximity to the body. It focuses energy and this is why it is a great stone to choose as a healer or to wear as jewelry
Physically, Amethyst heals the heart, lungs, pancreas, and spleen. It strengthens the immune system and enhances vitality, especially during chemotherapy and radiation. It was for these reasons that I chose it to do a fundraising bracelet for Pancreatic Cancer and support a friend going through the treatment.
In addition, you can also put some Amethyst under your pillow to help with insomnia and create pleasant dreams.
This is a good stone for the Zodiac signs of Aquarius and Pisces. Both are very intuitive signs.
Amethyst with Other Stones
Amethyst is also a Crown Chakra stone too, which promotes connection to the Divine. When I want to develop my intuition and connect with Spirit, I will pair it with other Connection stones, such as Fluorite, Howlite, Clear Quartz, and Labradorite, Lepidolite
So next time you are looking at stones and one catches your eye, listen closely and see what it is saying to you!
